Baltasound Hotel

This family-run hotel on the Northern island of Unst is sympathetic of its remoteness: happy to offer meals and a bed for the night on days when they're technically meant to be shut and preparing packed lunches for ambitious walkers who come to stay. As the only hotel on the island of Unst, they serve as something of a hub for local social activity. Guest chefs from Chinese restaurant The Golden Coach, located on the Shetland mainland, regularly travel the 58 miles north to Baltasound and offer a complete Chinese menu for the few days they're visiting. Similarly an Italian takeaway night offers a selection of starters and pasta dishes for customers to enjoy at home. Aside from these enterprising menus, The Baltasound Hotel offers evening meals created around the local meat and fish supply. Daily specials include split oven roast langoustines with a ginger, garlic and herb gratin as well as Shetland lamb steaks.
